Start Line Positions
The 10K and 5K races features assigned start corrals to maintain a safe, fast, and fun course for all participants. Your corral assignment will be emailed to you approximately two weeks prior to the race and will be printed on your race bib. Please be in your corral five minutes prior to the start of your race. There will be a break of approximately three minutes between each corral.
For the purpose of seeding the 10K event, we are pleased to provide Elite, Preferred and Open Start Corrals for all qualifying participants. The 5K event will only utilize Preferred and Open Start Corrals. Start corrals will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants with a qualifying time from a past RAM Racing event from 2015-2017 will be automatically placed in the appropriate preferred corral. If you do not have qualifying results from a past RAM race, or if you wish to change or improve your start position, you may submit proof of a qualifying time. Participants who do not meet either criterion will be assigned to an Open Start Corral based on the pace per mile entered during the registration process. The Open Start Corral will line up and begin after the Preferred Start Corrals.
ELITE CORRALS FAQ
Participants can qualify to be placed in the Elite Corral of the 10K based on a 2015-2017 race result from one of the following distances: 5K, 8K, 10K, 10 Mile, half marathon or marathon. Runners expecting to finish in under 35:00 (men) or 40:00 (women) may apply to the Elite Start Area. Deadline for application and approval into the Elite Start Are is July 8, 2016. PREFERRED CORRALS FAQ
What are Preferred Start Corrals?
Preferred Start Corrals are the first corrals to start each race, and are open only to those participants who meet specific criteria.
Big Ten Network 10k participants who run faster than an 11:30/mile will be assigned to a Preferred Start Corral based on the following criteria:
- Past performance of 11:30/mile or faster in a RAM Racing event from 2015-2017
- Submitted results from a 5k or longer, run within the past two years, at a pace of 11:30/mile or faster
If you have run a RAM Racing event from 2014-2017 at a pace of 11:30/mile or faster, you will automatically be placed in a Preferred Start Corral.
How to apply for a Preferred Start Corral
If you would like to apply for a Preferred Start Corral using results from a non-RAM Racing event please follow these steps:
- Log into your RAM Racing Account at http://ramracing.enmotive.com/
- Open the “My Account” tab in the upper right corner of the screen
- Click on the “View Registration” tab next to the correct upcoming race
- Follow the prompts where it says Action Needed – Corral Verification to attach proof
Qualifying results must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event to be considered. Preferred Start Corral assignment is assigned on a first-come first-served basis and is not guaranteed.
You will receive an email confirming Preferred Corral Status no less than ten days prior to the event. Participants who do not meet either criterion will be assigned to an Open Start Corral based on the pace per mile entered during the registration process.
What do you accept as proof of Preferred Corral qualification?
Results must be from a race that is a distance of 5k or longer, run within the last two years. The following will be accepted:
- An attached screen shot of your individual race results. The race name and date must appear along with your results.
- An attached finisher’s certificate that contains your name, your finishing time, the race name and distance
- An attached printout from an online race results page. Please ensure that the race name and date appear on the page. Please circle or highlight your name and time.
- A link to your individual race results. Please ensure your name and results are the ONLY ones appearing on the page.
What do you mean by Race Pace?
Your race pace is how many minutes it takes you to run or walk one mile. Say it takes you ten minutes to run one mile. That means that your race pace is 10 minutes per mile.
How can I find my corral assignment?
You can confirm your Start Corral assignment approximately ten days prior to that event on the Your Races page in your RAM Racing account. Your Start Corral will be listed next to your name, city, state, and age division. Start corral assignments will also be sent in a Runner Info email approximately ten days prior to the event.
How am I assigned a corral if I don’t meet the qualifications for a Preferred Corral?
Runners not meeting the Preferred Start Corral criteria, or choosing not to apply for a preferred corral, will be assigned to an Open Start Corral. Open start corral assignments are based on the anticipated pace per mile entered during the registration process. Open Start Corrals begin the race after the Preferred Start Corrals.
I want to run with a friend/family member but we were assigned different corrals. What should we do?
You can move back in corrals but not forward- for example, a runner assigned to Corral A may line up in Corral C but a runner assigned to Corral C will not be allowed to line up in Corral A.
Why does RAM Racing use assigned start corrals?
Assigning start corrals based on anticipated race pace allow us to group like-paced participants together, helping to ensure a safe, fun race experience for all participants.
Course Safety, Event Rules and Guidelines
To ensure everyone’s safe enjoyment of these events, please adhere to the following: no dogs, bicycles, strollers, baby joggers, roller skates, in-line skates or unauthorized wheeled vehicles will be permitted on the 10K or 5K course.
All participants must follow the official event rules and guidelines of the BTN Big 10K, 5K and Fan Fest. Rules and guidelines should be reviewed in their entirety prior to race day.

Participants will receive an official event shirt, participant bag and bib number with timing device at packet pick-up. Please Note: There is no race day packet pickup.
Packet Pick-Up dates, times and location are coming soon!
You can have a friend or family member pick up your packet for you. To do so, please forward your bib number confirmation email to your designated friend or family member. In the text of your forwarded email be sure to state that you are providing your authorization for this person to pick up your packet. Your designated person will need to print out the forwarded e-mail to present at packet pick-up to obtain your race materials.
All registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions.
Participants will receive a gender-specific, technical race shirt in the color scheme corresponding to the Big Ten University of their choice.
Participants may also purchase additional school-specific shirts on race day.
Participants who choose not to select a University specific shirt can choose a “BTN Fan” gender-specific technical race shirt.
Awards & cash prizes are presented to the top five male & female 10K finishers overall.

The Big Ten Bonus Prize will be given to each of the first three male & female 10K finishers who are a current or former student at a Big Ten University*. It will be awarded in addition to any other winnings.
Overall Top Three for 5K
Awards & Fleet Feet Sports gift certificates are presented to the top three male & female 5K finishers overall.
- 1st Place: $100 Fleet Feet Sports Gift Certificate
- 2nd Place: $75 Fleet Feet Sports Gift Certificate
- 3rd Place: $50 Fleet Feet Sports Gift Certificate
Age Group Awards for 10K & 5K
Awards will be mailed within 4-6 weeks of the race to the top 3 Male and Female: 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over.
*In accordance with the NCAA, current collegiate athletes, athletes with remaining collegiate eligibility as well as all high school athletes, are not eligible to receive prize money. It is the athlete’s responsibility to check with their institution’s compliance department to confirm any changes to NCAA rules that may make them eligible to receive prize money and/or awards.

The donation amount is determined by the BTN Big 10K office and is based on the number of volunteers that worked on race day, the duration of the job assignment and the scope of work.
