Don’t miss the BTN Big 10K event in Chicago on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Dress up in your favorite school colors and compete for your Big Ten team in the 10K race or 5K run/walk. Afterward, kick-off the college football season in style with thousands of Big Ten fans at the ultimate post-race Fan Fest & Tailgate party!

This will be a Fan Fest you will never forget! Packed with mascots, cheerleaders, food, music, beer, interactive games, exciting prizes, BTN talent, former Big Ten player appearances and much more!

What’s New for 2014?

2014 is an important year for the Big Ten and this year’s BTN Big 10K is sure to be the best yet!

  • Join us in welcoming Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten!
  • A new course takes fans around Soldier Field and was designed to better accommodate runners.
  • More space, more activities, more food, and more beer means shorter lines throughout this year’s Fan Fest!
  • New school-specific performance race shirts feature a brand new design for 2014! Check out the new design here .
  • Big Ten themed race medals feature a new design unique to 2014 and are awarded to finishers of the 10K and 5K.
  • The BTN Big 10K will be shown on BTN again in 2014. All participants will get a chance to appear on national TV!

Race Start Times:

10K* | 7am
5K* | 8am

*Subject to change based upon final course approvals from the City of Chicago.

Start Line Positions

The 10K and 5K races feature a multiple wave start to ensure a positive race experience, providing all participants the same opportunity for a smooth, safe start and sufficient room to run along the course.

For the purpose of seeding the 10K event, participants who provide documented qualifying performances will be given priority over those who provide expected finish times for Start Corral placements.  Participants who entered their expected 10K finish times during online registration will fill in remaining capacity as space allows.  The 5K event will be seeded based upon each participant’s estimated finish time (provided during the registration process).  Signs denoting expected pace will be visible in the start area.

Participants can qualify to be placed in the Elite Corral of the 10K based on a 2012-2014 race result from one of the following distances: 5K, 8K, 10K, 10 Mile, half marathon or marathon.  Runners expecting to finish in under 35:00 (men) or 40:00 (women) may apply to the Elite Start Area.

Women’s standards for consideration for access to the Elite Start Area:

Men’s standards for consideration for access to the Elite Start Area:

  • 5k  17:00

Participants can qualify to be placed in the first two Start Corrals of the 10K based on a 2012-2014 race result from one of the following distances: 5K, 8K, 10K, 10 Mile, half marathon or marathon.  Runners expecting to finish in under 50:00 may apply to be placed in Start Corrals 1 or 2. Standards for Start Corrals 1 and 2 are based on an approximate pace of 8:00 min/mile.

Standards for consideration for access to Start Corrals 1 and 2:

  • 5k  25:00
  • 8k  39:45
  • 10k 49:45
  • 10m 1:20:00
  • Half Marathon 1:45:40
  • Marathon 3:30:00

Please note start corrals will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and the number of participants allowed in each corral has yet to be determined. Assignment to a Start Corral is not guaranteed.  The event reserves the right to request verification of past performance for entrance into the first three corrals.

How to Submit Proof of Qualifying for 10K Seeded Corrals

If you would like to update or change your 10K Start Corral assignment, you can do so by submitting a qualifying time.  Your qualifying time must have been run on or after January 1, 2012.  The deadline to submit proof of a qualifying time is Thursday, June 26, 2014.

You may submit your qualifying time in one of two ways:

Faxed and e-faxed qualifying times must be in the form of a finisher’s certificate or printout from an online race results page.

E-mailed qualifying times may be sent as an attachment in the form of a finisher’s certificate or printout from an online race results page.  Links to race results will be accepted ONLY if the link is to your individual result.  Your name and finishing time must be the ONLY result appearing on the web page.  Links to general race result pages will NOT be accepted as proof of qualification.

As a reminder, your official time does not begin until you cross the start line. The timing system provides each participant with an accurate time from the start to finish lines.

Course Safety, Event Rules and Guidelines

To ensure everyone’s safe enjoyment of these events, please adhere to the following: no dogs, bicycles, strollers, baby joggers, roller skates, in-line skates or unauthorized wheeled vehicles will be permitted on the 10K or 5K course.

All participants must follow the official event rules and guidelines of the BTN Big 10K, 5K and Fan Fest.  Rules and guidelines should be reviewed in their entirety prior to race day.

In-Store Packet Pick-up

Participants will receive an official event shirt, participant bag and bib number with timing device at packet pick-up.

Packet Pick-Up will take place at Fleet Feet Sports – Old Town on the following days:

  • Monday, July 21 10am-8pm
  • Tuesday, July 22 10am-8pm
  • Wednesday, July 23 10am-8pm
  • Thursday, July 24 10am-8pm
  • Friday, July 25 10am-8pm

You can have a friend or family member pick up your packet for you.  To do so, please forward your bib number confirmation email to your designated friend or family member.  In the text of your forwarded email be sure to state that you are providing your authorization for this person to pick-up your packet.  Your designated person will need to print out the forwarded e-mail to present at packet pick-up to obtain your race materials.

Please Note: RACE DAY Packet Pick-Up is available for the 2014 BTN Big 10K.  The convenience fee for RACE DAY PICKUP is $15 and will be processed at registration. A convenience fee must be paid on all packets that are picked up on race day (including friends and family).

All registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions.

Race Shirt, Participant Bag and Entrance into the Fan Fest

Each registrant will receive a gender-specific race shirt in the Big Ten school color of their choice if registered by July 1, 2014. Fans registering after July 1, 2014 will receive a gender-specific navy blue BTN race shirt. The BTN race shirts will also be available to those registering before July 1, 2014.

Awards

Awards & cash prizes are presented to the top five male & female 10K finishers overall.

Overall Top Five for 10K

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $400
  • 3rd Place: $300
  • 4th Place: $200
  • 5th Place: $100

Big Ten Bonus Prize

  • 1st Big Ten Alumni: $500
  • 2nd Big Ten Alumni: $400
  • 3rd Big Ten Alumni: $300

The Big Ten Bonus Prize will be given to each of the first three male & female 10K finishers who are a current or former student at a Big Ten University*. It will be awarded in addition to any other winnings.

*In accordance with NCAA regulations, current student-athletes are ineligible from claiming any prizes.

Overall Top Three for 5K

Awards & Fleet Feet Sports gift certificates are presented to the top three male & female 5K finishers overall.

  • 1st Place: $125 Fleet Feet Sports Gift Certificate
  • 2nd Place: $75 Fleet Feet Sports Gift Certificate
  • 3rd Place: $50 Fleet Feet Sports Gift Certificate

Age Group Awards for 10K & 5K

Awards are presented to the top 3 Male and Female: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over.

Super Fan Awards
